If you experience side effects, your doctor may change your dose, temporarily stop, or permanently discontinue treatment with selpercatinib. Do not change your dose or stop taking selpercatinib unless instructed by your doctor.

What side effects can selpercatinib cause?

Liver Problems

Liver problems (elevated liver enzymes) may occur during treatment with selpercatinib and can sometimes be serious. Your doctor will perform blood tests before and during treatment to monitor for liver issues. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop any of the following symptoms: yellowing of the skin or the whites of the eyes (jaundice); dark or "tea-colored" urine; drowsiness; bleeding or bruising; loss of appetite; nausea or vomiting; or pain in the upper right stomach area.

Lung Problems

Selpercatinib can cause severe or life-threatening lung inflammation (swelling) during treatment, which may even be fatal. Inform your doctor immediately if you experience any new or worsening lung symptoms, including shortness of breath, cough, or fever.

High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)

High blood pressure is common during selpercatinib treatment and can sometimes be severe. You should have your blood pressure checked regularly. If you develop blood pressure issues, your doctor may prescribe medication to treat it. Tell your doctor if you have increased blood pressure readings or symptoms such as confusion, headache, shortness of breath, dizziness, or chest pain.

How to Take Selpercatinib

Take selpercatinib exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Swallow capsules and tablets whole. Do not break, crush, or chew them.

Do not give selpercatinib capsules to children who cannot swallow them.

It can be taken with or without food.

If you vomit after taking a dose, do not take an additional dose. Take your next dose at the scheduled time.

If you miss a dose, do not take it if it is less than 6 hours until your next scheduled dose.

If you take too much, call your doctor or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.
