Mitotane Monitoring
1. Routine Monitoring
Monitor plasma drug concentrations during therapy (to achieve therapeutic levels and avoid toxicity); monitor after discontinuation (to determine when contraception can be stopped).
2. Endocrine System Monitoring
Monitor for signs/symptoms of adrenal insufficiency; if steroid replacement therapy is required, monitor free cortisol and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) levels.
3. Neurological Monitoring
Monitor for signs/symptoms of central nervous system (CNS) toxicity.
Cautions
1. If shock or severe trauma occurs, seek immediate medical attention.
2. Premenopausal women: Notify your healthcare provider if vaginal bleeding or pelvic pain occurs.
3. Breastfeeding: Do not breastfeed during treatment.
4. Women of childbearing potential: Inform your doctor if pregnancy is known or suspected; understand the potential risks to the fetus during mitotane treatment; use effective contraception during treatment and after discontinuation as directed by your healthcare provider.
