Vientiane, Laos – October 08, 2024 – BigBear Pharma, a leading biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of innovative cancer therapies, today announced that Lusutrombopag has been approved by the Lao Ministry of Health. The approved trade name in Laos is LUTRODX.
Lusutrombopag is an orally bioavailable thrombopoietin receptor (TPOR) agonist. TPOR is the regulatory target of endogenous thrombopoietin, which acts as a primary cytokine promoting megakaryocyte proliferation and differentiation, and influences other hematopoietic lineages, including erythroid, granulocytic, and lymphoid lineages.
Indication
For the treatment of thrombocytopenia in adult patients with chronic liver disease who are scheduled to undergo a procedure.
Dosage and Administration
• Initiate Lusutrombopag 8-14 days prior to the scheduled procedure.
• Patients should undergo the procedure 2-8 days after the last dose.
• Recommended dose: 3 mg taken orally once daily with or without food for 7 consecutive days.
Adverse Reactions
Most common adverse reaction (≥3%): Headache (5% in Lusutrombopag group vs 4% in placebo group).
Serious adverse reaction: Portal vein thrombosis (1%), not associated with marked platelet count increases.
Warnings and Precautions
Thrombotic/Thromboembolic Complications
TPO receptor agonists may increase the risk of thrombosis in patients with chronic liver disease. Monitor platelet counts and thrombotic events, and manage promptly.
In patients with a history of thrombosis, hereditary thrombophilic conditions (such as Factor V Leiden, antithrombin deficiency, etc.), or abnormal hepatic blood flow, the benefit and risk should be weighed.
Do not use in an attempt to normalize platelet counts.
